Doña Ana County Sheriffs
photograph collection, 1854-1963. PH 005
Consists of twenty 8" x 10" black-and-white photographs (which are
reproductions of the originals) of the sheriffs of Doña Ana County, New
Mexico. The men depicted were sheriffs between 1854 and 1963; however, this
collection of images is not a complete accounting of all sheriffs who served
during that time period. The photographs are of the following: A.L. "Happy"
Apodaca, Martin Lohman, Miguel Apodaca, Felipe Lucero, Guadalupe Ascarate, Jose

Empire Club Collection.

The Empire Club, a popular restaurant and private club located on Montana street
in the Five Points area of El Paso, Texas, catered to the community's upper
middle class. In addition to dining, music, and dancing, the club offered group
tours to various vacation spots.This collection consists of three black-and-white
photographs taken by an unknown photographer circa 1960. The subjects of the
photographs are Mrs. Vivian Hertzog seated at a table next to a hat bearing
the words "Empire Club;" Leon and Tommy Gillespie by the steps of
a train car; and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Boone dancing. It is assumed that all three
groups were involved with the Empire Club.

Consists of one snapshot, two color postcards, and 18 commercially printed black-and-white
photographs. The snapshot is of Haigh and two unidentified men. The postcards
and commercial photographs include views of Apache Trail; Elephant Butte Dam;
the scenic highway in the Franklins; buildings, streets, and landmarks in Juárez,
Mexico, and El Paso, Texas; and the international bridge that links the two
cities.

Consists of 1,272 negatives (35 mm.), from which 727 black-and-white and 65
color photographs were printed. These photographs document the construction
of the UTEP Library from May 30, 1982 through May 3, 1984. The black-and-white
prints range in size from 3" x 4.5" to 8" x 10" while the
color photographs are printed in 3" x 5" format. The collection includes
23 color slides, several literary quotations, and a short statement of intent
by the photographer.
