Land registry investigation.
1544
The author of this testimony is Francisco Vásquez de Coronado, the famous
explorer/conquistador. In 1540-42, he was one of the first Europeans to enter
and map what is now the Southwestern United States. Vásquez de Coronado
searched for the fabled Sevens Cities of Cíbola (La Gran Quivira), cities
with houses built of gold. Instead he encountered the rich cultures of the Pueblo,
Navajo, Apache and other indigenous groups.
