Illustration by Edmund Dulac from a 1907 edition of the Arabian Nights
The exhibit "Sir Richard F. Burton and the Arabian Nights" highlights versions of the Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night translated by Richard Burton from the Lewis and Marie Hatch Collection of Sir Richard F. Burton Books. The collection includes not only books written by the nineteenth-century writer and explorer, but books about him and books by his contemporaries. Included in this exhibit are several earlier translations of the tales—and several later versions as well. The exhibit, on the Library’s sixth floor in Special Collections, will be on display through the end of February. In the Hertzog Room is another display case with a selection of rarities from the Burton collection including some of his earliest books.
