Friends of the Library

Supporting the University Library since 1987

As UTEP moves toward becoming a national research university with a 21st Century student demographic, the resources that the University Library provides must continue to facilitate student success, provide access to research materials for faculty, and house documents on the history of our region and its principal players.

The FRIENDS of the University Library provides the Library with support and assistance in reaching these goals. An example being the Friends of the University Library Special Colllections Endowment Fund, established to support the programs and operations of the C. L. Sonnichsen Special Collections department.

The Library plays many roles on campus, and in the community.

Ten Reasons to support the University Library:

  • Provides core research materials for faculty, including access to more than 80,000 journals in electronic or print format.
  • Holdings support the curriculum and student success.
  • Frequented over 975,000 times per year by students, faculty, staff and community.
  • Library computer resources used by over 70% of UTEP students.
  • Offers adaptive technology to assist users with special needs.
  •  Serves as a Texas State Historical Resource depository.
  • Exhibits original artwork by renowned El Paso artists.
  • Hosts the biennial Carl Hertzog Lecture and Award for Excellence in Book Design.
  • Hosts lectures featuring nationally-noted speakers.
  • Integral to the vision of UTEP to becoming a National Research University.

Be a part of UTEP’s increasing success by joining the Friends of the University Library, an important means of supporting UTEP and the community it serves.

The University Library:  Gateway to Success and More

The UTEP Library, with its stunning Bhutanese architecture, offers the university family and the community a wealth of resources for study and research.

Inside this beautiful building, the light and airy atrium proudly displays “Four Friends,” a “thangkha” or a Buddhist banner UTEP received as a gift from the kingdom of Bhutan.  There is also original artwork by renowned El Paso artists Tom Lea, Jose Cisneros, and Luis Jimenez.

The Library is a local source for government documents and the C. L. Sonnichsen Special Collections Department is a Texas State Historical Resources depository.

On the premises, or through the Library’s website, libraryweb.utep.edu, faculty, staff, and students have access to the necessary materials, connecting to cutting-edge research and information from the most respected scholars.
