Media & Microforms (M & M), formerly Current Periodicals & Microforms (CPM), is located on the first floor of the Library and contains the Library’s collection of audio and video materials, newspapers and microforms. The current unbound journals and magazines are now housed on the second floor, north side in the Current Periodicals Reading Area.
Current week’s newspapers are in the Current Periodicals Reading Area, all of the previous week’s and back issues of major national and foreign newspapers are housed on the first floor in M & M. If the Library has both a paper copy and microfilm subscription to a newspaper, the paper copies are retained until the microfilm copy arrives. If there is only a current subscription, the newspaper is usually retained for a six-month to two-year period depending on frequency and use.
Microforms consist of newspapers and periodicals which have been photographed and reduced in size. These microforms may take several forms: microfilm, microfiche or microprint cards. Some books and manuscripts are also available in microform such as historical, scientific and technical texts, diaries and letters, presidential papers and master’s theses. An extensive collection dealing with the pioneer southwest, 18th and 19th century American history, and Mexico are also included. Government Documents microfiche collection is also housed in M & M.
The Library's extensive collection of audio and video materials are available to UTEP students, faculty, and staff only.
