Checking out & Renewing items
UTEP library materials are checked out at the circulation desk. A valid UTEP photo identification card or a UTEP issued library card is required for borrowing privileges.
Return, renew, recall and holds
UTEP library material, may be returned at the Circulation desk and the Items will be checked in immediately, and upon request, a receipt will be issued.
The UTEP Library offers two ways to renew items for individuals who have renewal privileges: online or in person at the Circulation Desk. With a few exceptions, most material can be renewed using View Your Record on the UTEP Library web page. By following a few simple steps, loan periods can be extended without standing in lines. Items that are recalled, or on hold for another patron cannot be renewed.
Borrowers with recall privileges may place a recall on any item that is currently checked out, altering the due date so that the item will be returned sooner and placed on hold. Hold privileges allow borrowers to place a hold on most checked out items. Unlike a recall, a hold will not change the current due date of an item. To place a hold or a recall must be done in person at the Circulation desk. We cannot guarantee when a held or recalled item will be returned, however, a pickup notice will be sent immediately upon receipt. Failure to return a held or recalled item by its due date may result in the $1.00/day fines.
Borrowing Limits
UTEP Affiliates:
Loan Periods
Loan periods vary by item and by card holder status. For more information see the Circulation Policies (Acrobat Reader).
Recalls and Holds
Recalls: All items checked out are subject to recall. A library recall will result in a shorter loan period. UTEP students, faculty and staff can instigate a recall by visiting the Circulation Desk.
Holds: A hold allows most circulating items to be held at the Library circulation desk, but does not alter the due date if the item is checked out. Any UTEP affiliate can put a hold on most circulating items. Please note some material types are not eligible for holds.
Missing Items
Please ask at the Circulation Desk for help in locating missing items.

The UTEP Library sends all notices via email. UTEP students, staff and faculty notices will be sent to an official UTEP email address. If you prefer that a different email address be used for your campus communications, then you need to set up email forwarding at My.UTEP.edu.
