Laptop Loan Rules
Network access is to be used for academic research purposes only. Internet/World Wide Web searches must be in accordance with system and campus computer-use policies. Refer to UTEP privacy link: http://www.utep.edu/privacy.aspx.
- Laptops are for currently-enrolled UTEP students with a valid, Miners-Gold ID.
- The borrowing period is for 3 hours, with the option to renew one time if laptops are available.
- Laptops are to be checked-out and returned to the CLC, 3rd floor, University Library.
- Problems with network connection of peripherals (CD-ROM, Floppy) should be reported to CLC staff as soon as possible.
- Printing is not possible from the laptops. You can save your work on a floppy disc and print your documents from a computer in the CLC or at the CopyMine.
- FINES: will be assessed at a rate of $.50 per hour for an overdue laptop. Four hours after the laptop is due, it will be declared lost and a non-refundable processing fee of $10.00 will be added to the replacement cost of the laptop. These charges will be placed on your library record and will be also sent to the Bursars office. The replacement cost will be removed when the laptop is returned.
- SECURITY WARNING: Do not leave the laptop computer (or other valuables) unattended, even for a few seconds. Theft of laptops and accessories can occur. You will be held responsible if the laptop you have checked out is stolen.
Borrower (Student) must not:
- Copy any copyrighted software provided by UTEP. It is a criminal offense to copy any software that is protected by copyright, and UTEP will treat it as such.
- Use licensed software in a manner inconsistent with the licensing agreement.
- Copy, rename, alter, examine, or delete the files or programs on laptop.
- Use laptop to annoy others, including, but not limited to, sending offensive messages, or knowingly causing a system crash.
- Create, disseminate, or run a self-replicating program (“virus”), whether destructive in nature or not.
- Use a laptop computer for non-university work, such as for private business, or for clubs/organizations not sanctioned by UTEP.
- Tamper with switch settings, move, remove, reconfigure or do anything that could interfere with workstations, printers, or other equipment.
- Use software not provided by the CLC.
- Access or attempt to access a host computer, either at UTEP or through a network, without the Library’s permission, or through use of log-in information belonging to another person.
